Sunsets in Kaldir

A summer evening is a glass of wine, a delicious snack, good music, a team and a sunset. The sun goes down low, Istria turns golden. Wines are in glasses, snacks are on the table, music is playing. "We are here on the edge of Kaldir and we have a unique view. It would be a shame not to take advantage of it. But the point is not only the sunset. The point is for people to socialize, taste wine, eat good food, chat and maybe stay longer than they planned. If that happens, we have done a good job," said Robi Bertoša.

The Bertoša winery was founded in 2006 by Guerino Bertoša with the support of his son Robi, who manages it today. The first labels appeared on the market in 2009, and since then the Kaldir winery has drawn attention to itself with the quality of its wines, which the public has quickly recognized. Today, they cultivate six hectares of vineyards in beautiful locations around Motovun and Kaldir.

The vineyards are planted on deep white soil, and the dominant grape varieties in the vineyard are Malvasia Istria and Teran. They also pay special attention to Pinot Grigio, and they also cultivate a little Merlot and Muscat Blanc. They are present on the market with five wine labels under the common brand "Berba". Each wine has its own author's label: fresh wines are marked with labels in lighter shades, while those for aged wines are darker. The message of the Bertoša winery runs through the labels: "Hand-picked from the peaks of Istria". You will find Bertoša's cellar and tasting room at the end of the village, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Motovun and the Mirna River Valley.

Istrian sommelier Karin Rupena Perdec led the guests through six dishes signed by chef Stefan Tomašić and six selected Bertoša wines. It started with tacos and mortadella and pistachio mousse with fruity sparkling wine Rosé. Then came the bruschetta with roast beef, pesto rosso and grainy mustard, with Malvasia Istria 2025, and then the bruschetta with white fish tartare and cow's curd with Pinot Gris 2025. Ravioli stuffed with smoked mussels, sea foam and toasted hazelnut accompanied Pinot Gris 2022, while the pork belly and beef burger with cheddar, salad, onion chips and Teran sauce was accompanied by Teran 2022. Lime and lemon cream with almond crumble was paired with Muscat Bieđ 2025.

„Robi dobro poznaje vinograd, tehnologiju i potencijal svake sorte, ali istodobno ostavlja prostora da vino govori samo za sebe. Kod njega se vidi ozbiljan pristup svakoj sorti, od autohtonih – malvazije i terana, do sivog pinota, koji u Istri polako dobiva na važnosti. Bertošin Pinot Sivi je ozbiljno, karakterno i bogato vino“, istaknula je Karin Rupena Perdec.
