Meat & Eat at Altroke Food Festival

Food trucks have become a delightful addition to Croatia's street food scene, captivating gastronomy enthusiasts with their innovative offerings. Among the myriad of choices, one standout experience was our encounter with Meat & Eat truck during the Altroke Food Festival in Novi Vinodolski.

Nestled within the historic ambiance of the old Frankopan castle, this festival offered a tantalizing array of flavours and aromas, drawing in visitors from the region. Meat & Eat, alongside Marmot food trucks, stood ready to satiate every craving, while the desserts from Di Mare tempted even the most discerning sweet tooths. And what's a gastronomic adventure without a sip of finely crafted cocktails to complement the experience?

Meat & Eat is a testament to the culinary prowess of the young talents hailing from Rijeka. With three trucks boasting diverse menus, they've already left a mark with their splendid Capra food truck, providing Istrian pleasures. Specialising in the classic American burgers, they execute it with unparalleled finesse. Our taste buds were treated to the sumptuous Pulled Pork and the regal Smokey the King Burger.

Pulled pork, a cherished cornerstone of traditional American BBQ cuisine, stole the show with its sweet, smoky, and subtly spicy profile—a true delight for the palate. Its origins trace back to Spanish settlers in the southern USA, who mastered the art of slow-cooking pork over a low, smoky fire until it reached unparalleled tenderness. Meat & Eat stays true to tradition, pairing the succulent pork with brioche buns, coleslaw salad, and spring onions, creating a symphony of flavours.

Equally captivating is the Smokey the King Burger, boasting layers of beef, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and crispy onion, all embraced by a luscious BBQ mayonnaise sauce. Each bite is a harmonious blend of smokiness and meaty richness, leaving an indelible impression. For those craving a twist, the Meat & Eat Burger, adorned with pickled cucumbers and ketchup, offers a delightful deviation. Even the less famished can indulge in the satisfying simplicity of a Hot-Dog.

As the culinary landscape continues to evolve, each food truck tale fuels the hope of seeing this gastronomic revolution spread across Croatia, enriching the palates of locals and visitors alike.
