By chance or not, bees have spectacular view, as the beehives are settled next to the famous belvederes of Vinodol. It is here where forest and Mediterranean herb fields meet, and where family Šararworks with diligent yellow beings to make a high standard honeyand honey products such as honey brandy, wax, propolis drops, and pollen. A long tradition and innovative work have been woven into each and every one of their products, which customers mostly can find on selling stands in Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski, and other sea resorts in vicinity.
Honey is mostly made from sage and wood fruits and herbs. On top of Vinodol hills sage fields abound and mix with nearby forest, where bees find berries and particular bushes. Some 50 beehives, with some 50.000 bees in every of them, stay on these fields throughout the warm part of the year. In winter they spend their time in Papići, a small place near Grižane, where Tihomir and Mara Šarar live with their sons Vlado and Zoran. Tihomir’s family also made honey, in a tradition 150 years old. The family now maintains ecologic production of honey.
Apart from honey, Šarars have excellent honey brandy (medica) with strong taste of sage honey. Among the favourite products of his customers is combination of honey with nuts, almonds, and dried figs.
