They say that Sisak-Moslavina County is ideal for weekend getaways and day trips. That's why, whether you live in the continental part of Croatia, in Zagreb or the surrounding area, use your free days and weekends to explore this beautiful destination. You can say good morning to Dan in the beautiful Turopolje Oak Forest and look for truffles together with some of the lovely dogs, then taste homemade truffles in local specialties, toast Dan with škrlet, an indigenous wine variety, learn how to make a traditional clay kibble for storing wine, taste delicious food with a view of the Kupa River, and then travel by the same river, on a solar-powered boat, to the city beach of Petrinje. And there... you will be greeted by a river beach with the most beautiful sunsets on the continent! If all of the above sounds incredible to you, we'll add this - you can reach Lekenik, the first stop of this destination (looking from the direction of Zagreb) by highway, which is free, parking is also free in most places of this destination, and the prices of coffee, food, and tickets for events are the most affordable in Croatia!
Lekenik is the first stop when you set out to explore Sisak-Moslavina County and its forests are known for their high-quality truffles. Already in your first steps through the forest, truffle hunter Mario Kolić and his sniffer dogs will reveal interesting facts to you - in the forest you are in, you can find as many as 15 different types of truffles, which are valued for their intense scent and rich taste. Truffle hunting in this area offers a unique experience that combines nature and tradition, and truffles from this region are renowned as some of the finest in Croatia.
The price of truffle hunting depends on the number of people in the group and is agreed directly with the guide (Mario Kolić, +385 98 838 942 ). You can take the collected truffles home or try them in local restaurants, such as the one in the Jurjevec Hotel Castle, in the Turopoljska klet bistro, or the Napoli pizzeria, kissing the treasures of the forest and homemade delicacies with a glass of chilled Škrle.
The Sisak-Moslavina County region is renowned for its untouched natural beauty, which you can discover and learn about in a fun and interactive way at the Natura SMŽ interpretation center.
This modern educational and presentation center, located in Petrinja, was founded to preserve and present the natural heritage, biological diversity, and cultural and historical heritage of the Sisak-Moslavina County, and is open daily for all generations.
The ceramics studio in Petrinja, located within the Laura Youth Center, also features a ceramics studio. The smiling Palma and Sonja will open the door for you and, with a few introductory words, reveal a few tricks on how to approach clay. Knead, roll, make decorations, use water and a sponge... And in a short time, even those who thought they couldn't create real little masterpieces will be able to do so. The workshops are both fun and organized for smaller groups. So - if you want to try your hand at the art of the city of ceramic artists, as Petrinja is often called, be sure to announce your arrival and arrange all the details in the studio.
If you want to enjoy something homemade while also experiencing untouched nature, choose the Mlinski kamen restaurant. Only ten minutes by car from the center of Petrinja (40 minutes from Zagreb), this gastronomic oasis is world-famous for its special plates of local delicacies, goulash pots, pâtés, and fish specialties. While you enjoy your meals, your gaze will stop at the relaxing Kupa River with a small harbor where a solar boat is parked.
It is intended for all guests for an additional attraction - transportation to the Petrinja City Swimming Pool, located at the mouth of the Petrinjčica River in the Kupa River, one of the cleanest rivers in Croatia. The swimming area is fenced and decorated, admission is free, and a bar and fast food restaurant are in operation. The baths can be enjoyed on concrete plateaus decorated with sunshades, or on a natural beach where you can sit and watch a beautiful sunset that resembles those at sea.
