The path to the taste of Krk: a gastronomic story to remember!

The town of Krk is not only known for its rich history and natural beauty, but Krk also tells an authentic gastronomic story, bite by bite. Every meal speaks the language of tradition, local ingredients, and love for its heritage – from succulent Krk lamb and handmade šurlice, to prosciutto, island cheeses, and olive oil, to seafood delicacies and a glass of Vrbnik žlahtina that rounds off the experience. To prove this to the numerous visitors this summer, the Tourist Board of the Town of Krk, ahead of the main tourist season, has created an attractive promotional campaign, “Travel to Taste Krk / Put do okusa Krka”, which celebrates the island's rich gastronomic heritage.

On this occasion, renowned Krk restaurateurs have created special promotional menus based on indigenous recipes and seasonal ingredients. Until the end of June, at twelve catering addresses in the town of Krk, gastronomes will be able to enjoy dishes that combine traditional recipes with a modern approach to cuisine.

The journey of flavours begins at the Magriž Tasting Room, where a rich lamb goulash with šurlice is served – a dish that perfectly combines rusticity and the fullness of traditional aromas. At the Krk Prosciutto House, visitors are treated to a selection of island delicacies: prosciutto, sheep’s cheese, prosciutto pâté, and warm homemade bread, which together make impressive snacks.

At Oliva Grill in Ježevac Camp, rolled lamb with aromatic spices and creamy polenta in a roasting sauce raises the standards of summer barbecue. Lamb under the baking sheet finds its place at the Pod Prevolt tavern, where slower, more thoughtful food preparation is fostered. Oliva Restaurant offers šurlice with shrimp and asparagus, a dish that brings the freshness of the sea and spring to the plate.

For those looking for stronger flavors, there are šurlice from the Pud Brest tavern, prepared with asparagus, smoked mussels, and sheep’s cheese – the perfect combination of sea and stone. Trattoria Glavotok takes it a step further in terms of aromas, offering šurlice with Krk prosciutto and truffles —a combination of earthy flavours and delicacy. Lovers of fish tastes can head to the Harbour restaurant, where they serve a Krk fish platter – a harmonious combination of marinated anchovies, trilj fillets, tuna cubes and pickled motar.

At the Volsonis restaurant, in the heart of Krk’s old town, visitors are greeted by medallions of fallow deer from the island, in a rich fig sauce, with fried homemade gnocchi. At the Marina Blue restaurant, the blacksmith’s filet in a Vrbnik Žlahtina white wine sauce stands out, served with polenta, while the Portella restaurant cherishes a local classic – lamb’s gizzard with šurlice, a dish that takes you back to your childhood.

Finally, something completely different and refreshing: Fidel from the Sea offers carpaccio of Adriatic tuna with fresh guacamole, rosehips, capers and Grana Padano leaves – a plate that tells the story of modern Krk.

"In Krk, we have truly excellent taverns and restaurants - places that cherish the rich tradition of island cuisine and where authentic snacks are prepared every day. With this activity, we wanted to highlight the value of our caterers, put them in the spotlight and once again remind visitors of the special features of local gastronomy.

Through specially designed menus, we aim to bring closer the long tradition of preparing indigenous dishes, which is based on fresh, local ingredients and knowledge passed down through generations. I believe that many visitors will recognize the effort and love invested in each dish, enjoy the diversity of flavors, experience Krk in a special, gastronomic way, and want to come back again", said the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Krk, Ivana Kovačić.

"Travel to Taste Krk" fits perfectly into the promotion of Kvarner's enogastronomic identity, highlighting local products, skill,s and heritage. Here, every meal becomes a personal experience - a true journey through the island, presented on a plate, which is just one more step towards the title of European Region of Gastronomy that Kvarner will claim in 2026.
